Introduction:
Let me ask one important question from each one of you which is where do you stay?. Some would say that they stay in Dehradun (Uttarakhand), some would say in New Delhi, some would say that they stay in Hosur (Karnataka). Everyone is aware of their local languages and each of us is perfect in speaking that local language. Today, I will talk about one language which is very ancient and tells about Sanatan dharma. Our Vedas and scriptures have been written in this language. This language talks about the values, culture and ethics of ancient India.
Now, let me ask you one popular question: how many of you are learning this language? Some of you may say that yes, they are learning. Now, another question arises which, according to you, is Sanskrit still spoken today? Well, in this blog, I will try to answer this question:
- Ceremonies: Ceremonies play an important role in everybody’s life. It brings families and friends very close. Ceremonies always bring happiness and festivals at home. Similarly, for doing some ceremonies people also call especially in marriages for a priest who will chant mantras. These mantras are divine love of god which are required in marriages. They are blessings from both divine mother and divine father. Priests chant these mantras in Sanskrit. Without the knowledge of Sanskrit language, they will not be able to chant these mantras. Hence, in ceremonies Sanskrit language is being spoken.
- Native speakers: Sanskrit is not being spoken these days in many parts of India. People stick to their local language and if they want to learn any secondary language, then it would be English or any foreign language like French, German, Spanish, etc. Very few people are interested in learning as they think who will speak to them?. But let me tell you that in Uttar Pradesh, northern Telangana, southern Rajasthan, Nagpur, and Haridwar, people speak in Sanskrit language. In fact, there are 550 people who speak this language (source: The Hindu 10th August 2014). I cannot say that this language is not popular. Hence, this language is being spoken.
- Astrology: Those who are interested in learning astrology, they also learn Sanskrit. In astrology, the astrologer will tell you what will happen to you in the future, and they also tell you the remedy you utilize so the problem can be avoided. Astrology astrologers should be aware of the Sanskrit language as they need to prepare a birth chart. Also, it helps the astrologer predict the future they do with the help of birth charts. To prepare a birth chart they also need to know Sanskrit, so they can suggest mantras.
Well, by the above few points I can say Sanskrit is still being spoken only in a few selected regions. But to be very honest everyone needs to learn this language as it is our mother language. Multibhashi is an online platform which will teach you this language from the basics. Please have a look into this website for more details: https://cutt.ly/UvLBO2W.
