What are your opinions on online school as a parent?
COVID-19 has caused school closures all over the world, with over 1.2 billion children in 186 countries out of school. As a result, education has changed dramatically, through E-learning, in which teaching is done remotely and on digital platforms. Apart from this, research also shows that online learning increases information retention, takes lesser time, costs less, comforts parents about children’s security and offers many such benefits that are impossible to ignore; so the changes covid has caused may be here to stay!
So, here's my honest opinion on online classes as a parent
Furthermore the significant disruptions, the pandemic has caused in everyone’s daily life, has also impacted children who are acutely aware of these unwelcoming changes. While many students could be relieved and excited to return to school, there are many others who are anxious or fearful. That goes without saying for the parents who are as anxious as the kids! Children are nervous and hesitant to return to school, especially since they have been learning at home for months now; And children are likely to struggle with some major upsetting, unwanted changes when schools reopen; such as the need to wear protective clothing like masks, being physically separated from friends and teachers while at school; using sanitisers, watching while they sneeze, and so on and so forth, the list is endless.
As a parent, I am currently satisfied with the online classes taking place and believe that it is working for my child, especially because it is keeping him safe from coronavirus. As a parent if my child goes to school, I will be very anxious, thinking of so many scary things such as whether my child is maintaining appropriate hygiene, or if he took off his mask, or is he using the sanitiser as required, and is not touching his eyes, nose or mouth with unclean hands, etc If my child is with me, I can definitely take care of him, but when he’s away, I am left anxious for his safe health and security because as parents we cannot control our children virtually from a remote location. However, the classes can definitely be held virtually from a remote location!
I believe that its not the place but the teaching methodology that is the key differentiator. Agreed that a connection is very important between the student and a teacher but who said it’s not possible online. Its taking time because children aren’t used to this method of learning. But neither were they prepared for the traditional classroom methods until it became a habit. As parents, we must look at enhancing the teaching-learning process for both the student and the teacher and personalised attention could also do wonders.
Finally,
Since the Covid-19 epidemic took over the whole planet, students who want to finish their education have been confined to a screen, where they are expected to comprehend things in the same way they would in a classroom lecture. As a result of this limitation, many kids are experiencing significant mental and physical issues. With that said, there’s no denying that online classes have done wonders in protecting our children from the virus. While online classes can be pretty taxing on the child, it is almost a necessary evil in the current pandemic.
