• Mi dispiace, ma non parlo bene l’italiano. = I’m sorry, but I don’t speak Italian that well. – While you are in Italy if you find yourself having difficulty explaining something in Italian you can say this. The Italian people will definitely help you out to know what you are saying. They will be happy to improve your language skills.

• Non ho capito, può ripetere? = I didn’t understand, can you repeat? – if you are unable to understand what the Italian people are saying, don’t hesitate to ask them to repeat. They will surrey repeat it for you. 

• Buongiorno. = Good morning. / Buon pomeriggio. = Good afternoon. – As the Italian speakers are really sociable so it is very polite to greet them every morning. “Good morning” in Italian is “Buongiorno”. But if it is later in the day and you want to greet someone from Rome? Well, then you can say, “Good afternoon” in Italian is “Buon pomeriggio”.

• Mi chiamo XYZ. = My name is XYZ. –  To introduce yourself in Italian you can say “Mi chiamo XYZ” which means “My name is XYZ.

• Mi scusi, quanto costa? = Excuse me, how much does it cost? — If you’re shopping at the local Mercato, it’s very likely that some of the prices might be missing. If you don’t see a price you can ask the shopkeeper or salesperson, Mi scusi, Quanto costa? You need to learn Italian numbers beforehand, in order to avoid further confusion!

• Come stai? = How are you? – It is polite to ask the person you are having a conversation with “How are you?” in Italian.

• Arrivederci. = Goodbye. – To wish a person Goodbye in Italian you use “Arrivederci”

• Piacere di conoscerti. = I’m pleased to meet you. – After speaking with a person, if you wish to say that you are pleased to meet him/her then you can say Piacere di conoscerti.

• Parla inglese? = Do you speak English?  – if you want to ask anyone whether he/she knows English or not then you can use this phrase. 
• Grazie. = Thank you.  – if you want to thank someone for helping you, you can say this.
