8 Online Resources To Learn the Telugu Language
Let me start writing on a personal note, writing about Foreign languages makes me happy but when I write about Indian languages it makes me happier, as there is a great sense of pride associated with it. Telugu is the largest member of the Dravidian Language Family. After Hindi and Bengali, it is the third most frequently spoken language of all Indian languages. In fact, along with India, throughout the world, around 75 million people speak in Telugu. It is the official language of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. It is one of the oldest languages of the world and as per history, it was responsible for dividing states as per linguistics in India. One astonishing part, in the US due to the demand in translation services, it is the fastest-growing language.
Let's now look at a few good resources to help you learn Telegu Language
1. Memrise- In this app, they will start with alphabets. Slowly you will go into the independent and the modifying forms of the vowels and consonants. You can easily download this app and start learning the basics.
2. APSCERT – It is a website of ‘State Council of Educational Research and Training- Andhra Pradesh’ and you may enter- http://apscert.gov.in/ebookapp/GeneratePdf’. Here you may get E-books related to children’s short stories and also school books in Telugu, as I feel children’s books are the most innocent way of enhancing your vocabulary, as the words are relatively simple.
3. Multibhashi– It is an ed-tech platform, from where you may hire professional trainers for Telugu, especially if your purpose is job-related then the trainer may help you to reach your desired levels. Multibhashi maintains absolute transparency by sharing not only your curriculum but also your daily session recordings. It is open for individual or group sessions.
4. Youtube videos- Millions of Youtube videos are there to make us learn any skill under the sun. One of my friends has apparently learned Guitar from just watching Youtube. The same goes for Telugu, however, the research has to be done thoroughly as when there is a sea of knowledge sometimes it gets difficult to understand which is the right knowledge.
5. Google play books- It’s not a bad option to learn from e-books, though you may end up paying a bit more. However, if you don’t want real classes, then you may learn about some basic phrases and words. You may also get a sneak-peek into the history of Dravidian languages.

If you are a fan of Bollywood movies then you may start watching all these ‘remakes’ in Telugu. Since you know the gist of the Hindi movie it won’t be difficult for you to understand. Secondly, you may increase your vocabulary by quickly noting down 10 new words, every time you watch a Telugu movie. Entertainment is the most hassle-free way to learn happily!
7. 50 Languages- It’s a less popular app and it covers all Dravidian languages. This app has 100 different lessons, including vocabulary and grammar, audio pronunciations and so on. It’s an inexpensive app and hence it’s a great tool for beginners.
8. Hello Talk and Tandem- These are actually two very interesting apps. They are actually learning communities. You can pair yourself with other users, where you can teach them your language and in return, you may learn their language. Basically, these apps can be used as a secondary form of learning Telugu as these are affordable.

Andhra Pradesh is known for its beautiful culture be it Kuchipudi dance, ingenious art and craft and glorious religion. The cuisine of Andhra is considered as one of the spiciest, in fact they have a tradition of making pickles from almost all vegetables. Are you wondering why I am telling all this?!!
