As a Dravidian language, Telugu has a majority of speakers in the Indian states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, where it is also an authorized administrative language. Besides Hindi and Bengali, it is one of the handfuls of Indian languages that have primary official recognition in more than one state in the country.
On the other hand, there are also Telugu-speaking minorities in the Indian states of Andaman & Nicobar and Karnataka and Telugu Nadu in India. A classical language of India, Telugu is one of six declared as such by the government of India.
Many people mistakenly believe that learning Telugu is tough. It’s mainly because it hasn’t been properly taught, and it has something to do with the misconception that it isn’t a communication language. I previously studied the Telugu language; however, I have since forgotten some of the elements of the language.
Cognitive learning capacity, age, and a variety of other elements all play a major role in learning a language, and I've highlighted some of the important aspects that I employed when I restarted my Telugu studies below.
Review
When you resume Telugu language study, you’ll be astonished at how much you recall from the first time. Even so, it’s a great way to start your review from the ground up.
While studying introductory Telugu may appear difficult, reviewing it will help you build your linguistic foundation and make learning more advanced grammar and vocabulary easier.
You might be tempted to hurry through the review course, but instead of doing that, take your time! You’ll still learn Telugu quicker than if you were a complete beginner, but you’ll want to make sure you’re studying, retaining, and reinforcing knowledge rather than just glancing over it.
Study
When you’re playing catch-up, you’ll need a lot more study time, especially if you’re learning a language. You’ll need to make sure you can devote time to studying every day so you can return to your previous level as quickly as possible.
The good news is that you won’t be overwhelmed because the majority of your research will consist of reviewing content you’ve already looked at. You can reduce the intensity of your study sessions once you’ve returned to your previous level, but make sure you continue to practise your language every day!
Speak
Your public speaking abilities may be pretty rusty, but the greatest way to get them rolling again is to exercise them! Even if you’re having trouble remembering words and everything seems to be coming out as gibberish, start communicating in Telugu right immediately.
Speaking is an excellent approach to reintroduce vocab that has been pushed to the back of your mind and to lubricate your grammar. You might be surprised at how much you still have to say!
Engage
Don’t put off seeking a native Telugu speaker who will patiently engage with you in your preferred language. While having language exchange partners is a terrific concept, don’t put too much reliance on them.
You can feel like you’re helping them more than they’re helping you because one person in a language exchange duo is usually stronger in the language they want to practise (or vice versa). Tutors and teachers, while more expensive, are unquestionably a superior option if you’re serious about regaining your language skills.
A teacher can assist you in making faster progress and properly teach you the more difficult components of the language that you will encounter later on.
Push
A long language break usually begins with the decision to avoid vocabulary review for one night. The next night, you realise you’re too sleepy, and each day passes until you can’t recall the last time you sat down and study the Telugu language.
Ensure a safety net to enhance efficiency and motivate you to go forward to avoid this happening again. Make it a habit to study at the same time every day. If you fall off the road, choose a language partner who will hold you accountable. Also, identify your areas of weakness and alter your study habits!
Make the language use in your everyday life.
In the Telugu Language, there are no exceptions. We effectively reduce language to a non-essential object when we treat it as if it were merely a collection of words on a piece of paper.
Finding ways to make a language important to your life should be a top focus if you want to remember a language quickly and efficiently. This strategy is broadly applicable since, because you have previously learned the language, you will be able to quickly recognise crucial points and gain additional information as you relearn it.
Finally,
You’re learning strategies have a significant impact on how quickly you learn Telugu. You will most likely take longer to remember the same item if your learning is limited to a particular place. It is a fantastic idea to enrol in an online course like Multibhashi to refresh your Telugu language abilities and live your Telugu life freely.
