Kashmir’s capital city on Saturday *witnessed its first snowfall of the new year causing a sharp dip in the temperature after a month-long dry spell. The valley was affected due to snowfall and rains. Srinagar airport is closed. All landing and takeoff of flights are temporarily suspended. Srinagar recorded 0 degree Celsius on Tuesday night.

The 300 kilometres long Jammu-Srinagar national highway and the Mughal Road have been closed for vehicles after a fresh snowfall. There is a possibility of heavy snowfall in the coming week and will gradually decrease thereafter as predicted by the weather department.
