Introduction:
The Vedic Sanskrit form has lasted thousands of years before the infancy of languages like Greek, Hebrew, and Latin. No wonder that Sanskrit is called the mother of all languages! Sanskrit can be taken as a great exercise for the brain. As per research done by the National Brain Research Centre learning Sanskrit words can involve more areas of the brain. So I am sure whether you are learning Sanskrit for business or studies or career, it can definitely sharpen your mind and pave your way into learning various European languages in the future. So let’s look into ways and means of enhancing Sanskrit vocabulary.
Important things to know
-
Sanskrit and books
One unique quality about our country is that the youth, especially among school children, still have a trend of reading and writing. Books are available at cheap rates in different fairs and flea markets. In fact, there are specific book shops that keep books related to Vedas and Puranas. In fact, children’s books starting from Panchatantra to Jataka- were all initially written in Sanskrit. Here you can not only get in-depth knowledge regarding the vocabulary of this euphoric language.
-
Sanskrit and online learning
In case you are looking for online classes after the advent of the pandemic then Multibhashi is your one-stop-shop. You can hit two targets with one arrow, meaning, you can get a professional trainer for personal or group sessions as well as once you start speaking in a language automatically your vocabulary increases. It’s a boon for introverted people like me, who do not want to have group sessions and still want to see rapid results. All you need is a stable internet connection and an urge to learn.
-
YouTube
Just like Sanskrit, YouTube has been the mother of all skill-learning platforms. It has a host of videos from different instructors who give you vivid knowledge of Sanskrit vocabulary and its usage. However, you should do your research work diligently as now there is an overdose of knowledge and thus falling into the trap of wrong concepts is more prone.
-
Movies
It’s a rather sad part that though the majority of Indian languages have risen from Sanskrit, there are very few people who use Sanskrit for daily usage. But don’t lose hope- in the year 2020, one animated Sanskrit film was made in the name of Punyakoti. By 31st March 2020, the movie was added by Netflix and as I researched online, I saw in the past too, there were several Sanskrit films made by Indian filmmakers. For example- Anurakhti, Bhagwad Gita, Suryakanta – to name a few. I won’t say that these movies are commercially acclaimed, however, if we want to increase our vocabulary, these movies can work as great tools.
-
Conclusion
There is a great sense of pride associated with learning Sanskrit and for that, I must congratulate you for. People marvel at themselves knowing Spanish and Italian but the root of all languages Sanskrit should be propagated among the youth of modern times. I hope with the above guidance you can not only enhance Sanskrit vocabulary but also fall in love with Indian culture all over again.
