Classes through Apps Online
Duolingo is one of the most popular free online language learning resources. The website teaches a variety of languages, including French. It offers extensive written lessons and dictation, as well as gamification to make learning more enjoyable. There is also a paid version available.
Memrise website claims to use science to make learning easier and more enjoyable. They promise to teach you “all the French vocabulary and grammar you need to be conversational in French” in their A1 French course.

Formal Learning Online
Learn French with the BBC. The material on the BBC – Learn French website is excellent, despite the fact that it is no longer updated.
Courses in French at Carnegie Mellon University. Carnegie Mellon University, located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is an excellent American university. They offer a free online French I and French II course.
The Foreign Service Institute (FSI) is the primary training institution for the United States Federal Government’s employees in the foreign affairs community. They have online public domain versions of their language courses.
LearnWithOliver. Learning with Oliver would mean that you would receive an email from LearnWithOliver every day. It’s free, and it lets me learn a few new words and see how they’re used in context. (They also offer a premium service, but that is not free.)
Tex’s French Grammar is the integral grammar component of Français Interactif, an online French course from the University of Texas at Austin. You can find a good overview of French grammar on the website, without getting bogged down in the details.
Coffee Break French Each Season of Coffee Break French offers a huge amount of free content available as audio podcasts. You can access these on the website, on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts and Spotify and each lesson lasts around 15-20 minutes – the perfect Coffee Break length! Like many other websites, has a free and a paid version.
The French Class. The French Class is a French-language school teaching French to adults since 1992. Our offices are in San Francisco, but we offer online classes all over the US and beyond. It offers a step-by-step 15-chapter course in its French Tutorial. The lessons are brief but helpful.
