Why is Art Education considered as not important in India?
Art education has been neglected since as long as we can remember and why it is not considered an important subject in India is because Indian parents as always so focused on shaping their children to become a government employee or forcing their kids to become a doctor and open up hospitals for their business purposes instead of getting to know their children more and finding out the dreams of their children and making them paved the path for themselves to outshine their dreams. Indians are easily stereotyped and their minds are fixed with a few options and never tries to know beyond certain things. This has made it hard for art education to be considered an important subject in India.
What are the possible reasons why art education is not considered important in India?
Lack of vision.
Yes, instead of encouraging children to study art education to help them develop creative skills and a vibrant learning environment, the parents of today’s society disgrace this beautiful subject of life. They see no vision in this subject and it is killing the subject slowly each passing day. Indians have this mind that only government jobs can help an individual survive and by government jobs, we don’t have many requirements for this particular subject.
Ill-equipped and inexperienced teachers.
Unfortunately, many of the art institutes are lacking behind when it comes to the proper equipment as well experienced teachers. Out of 100% of government art colleges, only a few per cent of colleges have knowledgeable and well-experienced teachers also, having the best and new equipment required for making beautiful art pieces but getting into such colleges is a difficulty that students are facing. Some colleges have talented students but are being ruined because of the lack of knowledge provided and tools.
Art education is not as easy as one thinks.
A lot of people living in India actually think that the subject of art education is effortless and uncomplicated but until and unless they are learning this specific subject, one will never know the difficulties of the subject. Painting a picture by copying from some source is not only the topic that is being covered, it’s a really vast subject where students need to read so many books to be able to understand a piece of art and the meaning of the painting holds. It has many different forms of art like painting, sculpting, sketching, etc and we have to learn all of the forms to be able to paint a masterpiece. The painting should not only look charming to human’s eyes but should also tell a tale. So, people who have never joined an art class should never judge this subject!
Finally,
If your children have this rare talent of arts, do not stop them from making themselves explore this wonderful journey! You can try to balance everything instead. Yes, you need to send them to school and make them learn the school books and of course, you should send them to art school as well for them to cope up with the subject in a proper way!
