The Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) has been offered since 1984 across the globe, including India and is a standardized criterion-referenced test to evaluate and certify the proficiency of the Japanese language of non-native Japanese learners.

 

The JLPT has five levels: N1, N2, N3, N4 and N5. The easiest level is N5 and the most difficult level is N1.

Exam Fees

The registration fee for each level differs depending on where you intend to take the test.

When compared to other popular language tests such as DELF, CELI, TestDaF, DELE, and HSK, the cost is very minimal.

In the United States, for example, the price could range anywhere from $60 to $75. In India and Australia, however, it ranges it could from 1000 to 1600 rupees and 90 to 100 Australian dollars respectively. Do ensure to check the JLPT website for latest costs before you apply.

Registration Fees (per Applicant) is between Rs. 1,000 to 1,600.

The fee for the 2022 JLPT Exam in India is payable through the online process through the websites of respective centers.

Anyone interested in taking the JLPT exam should register at least two to three months in advance (check the official website for exact dates).

During the registration period, you can only register by email or online.

You can also go to your nearest centre with a passport-sized photograph, the registration fee, and a photo-identity card, such as a passport or driver’s licence. Finally, fill out the entire application form.

The test is scheduled in two shifts: in the morning from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and in the afternoon from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Typically, you will receive your JLPT scores and results within two months of taking the test. For example, for the July and December tests, they traditionally announce in the last week of August and January of the following year.

Each level’s examinees receive a Score Report. In addition, successful candidates receive a “Certificate of Proficiency.”
